As the centre for Books, Writing and Ideas, we are host to some fantastic arts and culture organisations.

Within the Wheeler Centre building lives Australian Poetry, Blak & Bright, Melbourne City of Literature Office, Emerging Writers’ Festival, Express Media, Freeplay Independent Games Festival, Melbourne Writers Festival, PEN Melbourne, the Small Press Network and Writers Victoria. Beneath the Wheeler Centre you can enjoy a European culinary escape at Italian inspired restaurant The Moat.

Express Media

Voiceworks is open for submissions to Issue #131, ‘Strike’! Voiceworks accepts fiction, poetry, nonfiction, art and comics by people under 25.  Deadlines range from Sunday 15 October to Sunday 5 November. Check out the Voiceworks website for more information on how to submit.

Melbourne Writers Festival

MWF is currently recruiting for an experienced technical and operations manager to deliver the staging and production of all 2024 festival events and venues. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and driven production manager to support the delivery of a world-renowned festival. Applications close Thursday 26 October. The Moat

Booking an end-of-year function? Why not book your event at The Moat? Your guests can enjoy a new Christmas menu full of festive Italian fare, paired with cocktails, wines, beers and more from our extensive beverage list. Host your event in the Moat’s underground dining spaces or outside in the courtyard. Bookings can be made through The Moat’s website.

Writers Victoria

Join Writers Victoria’s online ‘Writing about Art’ workshop hosted by independent curator and arts writer Sophia Cai on Sunday 15 October. In this course, you’ll learn how to write critically about art and artists. The workshop is suited to both artists and non-artists alike. Find out more here.

The Wheeler Centre

Spring Fling is taking place until Saturday 14 October. With 24 events featuring 60 guests, our returning short series of big ideas has something for everyone.
