PEN Melbourne

Coming up at PEN Melbourne, Kylie Moore-Gilbert and Behrouz Boochani gather together at the Wheeler Centre for the Day of the Imprisoned Writer on Tuesday 14 November. Guided by the federal president of the Media and Entertainment Arts Alliance, Karen Percy, the pair will talk about their personal experiences, their reflections on the consequences of unjust imprisonment on a person’s being, the wider implications around ‘freedom’ and the role writers play in challenging oppressive regimes.

Writers Victoria

Later in November, award-winning writer, editor and artist André Dao will reflect on the state of Australian literature and publishing at Writers Victoria’s annual State of the (Writing) Nation address.

Hosted by Writers Victoria patron Andy Jackson, the evening will also feature an opening reading by writer and editor Hasib Hourani. All proceeds from this event will support the Writers Victoria Fund. Join them at the Wheeler Centre on Tuesday 21 November from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

To close the month, why not head along to Writers Victora’s online seminar with Sam Ryan and Brodie Lancaster Let’s Talk About…Finance for Writers.  Writers often spend hours learning about craft, only to find themselves adrift when it comes to finances. Hear different perspectives on why and how to develop business skills, or outsource assistance, in order to build a sustainable career on Tuesday 28 November from 6.30pm to 8pm.
