What’s on in March: Resident Organisation Round Up

As the centre of Books, Writing and Ideas, we are host to some fantastic arts and culture organisations within our walls.

Within the Wheeler Centre building on Lonsdale Street lives Australian Poetry, Blak & Bright, Melbourne City of Literature Office, Emerging Writers’ Festival, Express Media, Melbourne Writers Festival, PEN Melbourne, the Small Press Network and Writers Victoria. Discover what’s coming up in March 2023 for these organisations below.

 

The Melbourne City of Literature Office

The International Literary Programmers Roundtable is currently open for expressions of interest! Running from 2–7 October 2023, the roundtable is a professional development opportunity for literary professionals.

Featuring six delegates from Melbourne and six from other Cities of Literature, participants will network, exchange ideas and connect with local literary organisations.  

Please note that all delegates from other Cities of Literature will need to book their flights by the end of June. Expressions of interest are open now and close on Monday 13 March 2023, 11.59 pm (AEDT). 

 

Writers Victoria

Writers Victoria’s Established Author Forum 2023 is now open for bookings.

Part creative development, part networking, part writing group, this forum features in-depth lectures at a high level from prominent writers on the topics they know best, as well as an opportunity to ask questions about their work and your own.

After each lecture, writers share wins, frustrations, opportunities and industry developments within a social setting. The Established Author Forum meets four times a year and includes a per-session cost or a discounted yearly fee. All sessions take place at The Wheeler Centre, unless otherwise noted. Express Media

Express Media’s Parliament Express 2023 program is open for applications until March 22.

Parliament Express is an exciting program, presented in partnership with Parliament of Victoria, designed to give young writers an introduction to the workings of parliament and practical guidance in political writing. Read more here.

In a series of two-hour workshops delivered fortnightly, participants will develop their knowledge and skills and build on their understanding of how parliament functions. They will have the chance to engage in unique experiences and meet many of the people who play a role in the work of parliament.

Apply before 22 March to be considered for the program.

 

The Wheeler Centre

The Wheeler Centre is currently recruiting for an Executive Coordinator and a Web & Ticketing Coordinator. The Executive Coordinator’s primary focus is to support the CEO, along with the General Manager and Head of Finance whilst the Web & Ticketing Coordinator will support the digital and marketing team.

Small Press Network

Since 2012, Small Press Network has presented an annual award known as the Small Press Network Book of the Year Award (formerly the Most Underrated Book Award). 

Any book released by an SPN member publisher in the previous calendar year is eligible. Entries for the 2023 SPN Book of the Year Award open on March 31, 2023. Find out more info here.
