Lian Low

Lian Low is a writer, editor and spoken word artist. She is currently editor-at-large for Asian-Australian arts and culture magazine Peril, previously editor-in-chief (2010-2014) and prose editor (2009-2014).

Recently, Lian worked on the performance text for the sold out premiere of Do you speak Chinese? which was part of the Dance Massive program, held at the Malthouse Theatre in March 2015.  

Further publications include When Our Children Come Out: How to Support Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Young People (Finch Publishing, 2005), Growing Up Asian in Australia (Black Inc, 2008), ArtsHub Australia, ArtsHub UK, Kill Your Darlings, Chart Collective and various queer street press. 

In 2013 and 2014 she was a festival artist at the Melaka Art and Performance Festival in Malaysia, the largest and only site specific art and performance festival on a UNESCO World Heritage site. In 2014, she was a selected playwright for Lotus: Asian Australian Playwriting Melbourne program (a project partnership between Performance 4a and Playwriting Australia) and a selected artist for Kultour’s Artists Gathering in Melbourne.
