Josh Frydenberg opens up on family, leadership, the demands of public life and the changing nature of politics and civic discourse.

 A formative figure in the Abbott, Turnbull and Morrison governments and a former deputy leader of the Liberal party, Josh Frydenberg (A Grateful Son) stood at the centre of Australian politics during a period of significant economic and political upheaval.

As Treasurer, he oversaw many consequential economic decisions that have shaped the nation’s recent history. These range from emergency support measures and recovery efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic to the development of policies addressing fiscal responsibility, inflation and the role of government in times of uncertainty.

For this edition of The Fifth Estate, Frydenberg joins host Sally Warhaft to reflect on his decade in public life, from governing through a global crisis to his transition to life after politics and advocacy against antisemitism.
