Celebrated novelist Min Jin Lee, author of Pachinko, continues her intimate exploration of the Korean diaspora in her eagerly awaited new novel American Hagwon.

For close to two decades, Min Jin Lee has chronicled the lives of Korean immigrant families, writing sweeping yet intimate fiction about history, ambition and the search for belonging.

Her 2017 novel Pachinko was a finalist for the National Book Award and, in 2024, was named one of the 100 Best Books of the 21st Century by The New York Times and later adapted into an acclaimed Apple TV+ series. Now she returns with one of the most highly anticipated literary releases in years: her new novel, American Hagwon.

Lee joins host Annabel Crabb to discuss the new novel and the themes that run throughout her work. From immigration and displacement to the weight of expectation passed between generations, she will unravel the question that underlies it all: How do we live a meaningful life?
