Up Late: Dispatches from The Paris End

Book Now

Join the perceptive, playful chroniclers behind The Paris End for a drink, a gossip and a dash of cultural irreverence at our first Up Late of 2026.

A few years ago, Cameron Hurst, Sally Olds and Oscar Schwartz sat down for a beer at a Melbourne pub and, in a fit of civic affection (or madness), decided to start a newsletter. They named it The Paris End and Helen Garner has described it as ‘scarily hip’.

Their mission: to view the eccentricities of life through darkly tinted Melbourne lenses, offering judgment, opinion and analysis on the highs and lows of culture and the business of living. Somewhat sardonic, always sharp-eyed and often accompanied by illustrations from Aaron Billings, their columns have come to define what is worth talking about in Melbourne and the world at large – and how it should be talked about.

At this special edition of Up Late, Melbourne’s definitive tastemakers invite you to join them for an evening of literary revelry and light-hearted scrutiny: a spirited dive into the stories behind their new anthology, a toast to Melbourne’s quirks and contradictions and perhaps a gossip or two that didn’t make it to print.

Recommended for audiences 18 and older. Drinks will be available for purchase at the bar.
