Kate Grenville is no longer able to attend due to illness. Rosalie Ham will be joining Sarah L’Estrange and Andy Griffiths.
Which stories endure, provoke and define us? Come weigh the contenders and explore what really belongs among Australia’s greatest books.
Join ABC Radio National’s Sarah L’Estrange (The Book Show), alongside acclaimed Australian authors Rosalie Ham and Andy Griffiths, for a lively, all-Australian book club at the ABC’s Southbank TV studios for this live-stream event.
The authors will champion the books they think define us – across time and across genres – but we want your help remembering the many titles that deserve to make the ultimate all-Australian reading list.
In fiction, will you stand by My Brilliant Career or the ultimate coming of age book Looking for Alibrandi? Should For the Term of His Natural Life take its rightful place, or do more contemporary voices like Eggshell Skull deserve the spotlight? Is Australia’s favourite history book still The Fatal Shore?
What about picture books? Does Who Sank the Boat? make your list? Does Robyn Davidson’s memoir Tracks still hold a place in your heart or has it been usurped by newer titles?
From classic and contemporary fiction to iconic cookbooks and children’s stories, sweeping histories to sharp political nonfiction, there are no limits. If it’s Australian and it matters to you, we want to hear about it.
Come ready to argue, celebrate and leave with your own Top 10 - ready for ABC Radio National’s upcoming Top 100 Australian Books vote ahead of the live broadcast countdown on 17 and 18 October.
