Artist Ita Mehrotra and illustrator Sofia Sabbagh sit down to discuss graphic storytelling as a powerful tool of resistance and political engagement in our current moment.
Incorporating elements of visual art, film and fiction, graphic storytelling is a versatile and adventurous medium, uniquely able to communicate complex ideas in an accessible way.
In this session, Indian graphic artist Ita Mehrotra (Uprooted: A Graphic Account of the Struggle for Forest Rights) and Palestinian-Irish illustrator and comic book artist Sofia Sabbagh talk about the craft of graphic storytelling. They will discuss why it has become so popular as a form; how text and graphics interact; how it can be used as a tool for political and community engagement; and the potential for the medium to expand conversations around art, justice, advocacy and resistance.
With work engaging on issues from ecological activism to confronting colonial histories, join these two artists as they delve into the power of graphic storytelling, with host Stacy Gougoulis.
