Whether it’s meeting Australian literature’s newest wunderkind or hearing a known quantity strike a bold new path, Debut Mondays is your chance to be part of the literary avant-garde.
Each month in the brand new Moat Bar and Café at the Wheeler Centre, we’ll introduce you to a special selection of new voices from across Victoria and beyond, including a special guest in every session from Voiceworks magazine.

Maggie Groff
Maggie Groff is the author of two non-fiction books, Mothers Behaving Badly and Hoax Cuisine.
She has worked as a columnist for the Fairfax magazine Sunday Life and been published globally by Readers Digest. She lives with her husband in northern New South Wales. Mad Men, Bad Girls and the Guerilla Knitters Institute is her first novel.
Chris Flynn
Chris Flynn is the author of The Glass Kingdom and A Tiger in Eden, which was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Book Prize. His fiction and non-fiction have appeared in the Age, the Australian, Griffith Review, Meanjin, Australian Book Review, the Saturday Paper, Smith Journal, the Big Issue, Monster Children and many other publications. He has conducted interviews for the Paris Review and is a regular presenter at literary festivals across Australia. Chris lives on Phillip Island, next to a penguin sanctuary.
Robert Power
Robert Power was born in Dublin, worked as a journalist in London and now lives in Melbourne with his wife and his youngest son.
He works in the area of HIV prevention at the Burnet Institute and has travelled to all continents as a consultant. He has published over 100 academic journal articles and appeared on TV in Australia and abroad. He is also a respected visual artist and has had five solo exhibitions and numerous commissions.
An earlier version of his debut novel, In Search of the Blue Tiger, was shortlisted for the Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards for an Unpublished Manuscript in 2008. He has just completed Swansong, a literary thriller and is currently working on a sequel to The Blue Tiger. He is also second prize winner in the Age Short Story Competition 2011.
