A host of Melbourne International Comedy Festival comics gather to explore how comedy survives, thrives and occasionally lands a punch on authoritarianism.

Tom Ballard
Tom Ballard is an award-winning Australian standup who’s trying to save the world with comedy. Since becoming the youngest ever winner of the Melbourne Comedy Festival’s Best Newcomer Award, Tom has performed standup all over the world, including at JFL Montreal and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
No stranger to television, Tom has appeared as a guest on every network in Australia and even hosted his own (very naughty) late-night show Tonightly with Tom Ballard on the ABC. On top of that, the former Triple J host found the time to release his debut book I, Millennial: One Snowflake’s Screed Against Boomers, Billionaires & Everything Else.
Appearing as the loveable but incompetent cop Constable Sven Alderman in the hit Prime Video series Deadloch sealed Tom’s fate as Australia’s politically minded comedian sweetheart (yes, it’s a thing). As the co-host of his weekly political podcast Serious Danger, Tom is constantly in the process of cooking up even fresher and gooder jokes about everything that’s going on with the world.
