TJ Clark

About

Professor Timothy Clark is one of the world’s most respected art historians, while TJ Clark is a poet published in the London Review of Books, among others. In a recent edition of the LRB, Clark’s biographical note beside a new poem read simply: “TJ Clark ought to be finishing a book on Picasso, but is finding London distracting.”

Currently the Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of York, Clark is also the author of a series of books on the social character and formal dynamics of modern art. His works have redefined the practice of art history, suggesting a new emphasis that moves away from questions of style and iconography and considering modern paintings as an articulation of the social and political conditions of modern life.
