Theja Rio

Theja Rio is an Indigenous Naga filmmaker from Nagaland, India. His work is rooted in the oral histories, landscapes and cultural memory of Northeast India, exploring themes of identity, faith, belonging and social change. His short film Angh (2021) received a Special Mention at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, while his subsequent short, Ade (On a Sunday) (2024) premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and won Best Film at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. A graduate of the UK's National Film and Television School, Rio is part of a new generation of Indigenous filmmakers bringing underrepresented voices from the region to international audiences. Angh is his debut feature film.
