Susan Orlean is the bestselling author of nine books, including a memoir, Joyride; The Library Book; Rin Tin Tin; and The Orchid Thief, which was made into the Academy-Award-winning film Adaptation. She has been a staff writer at The New Yorker since 1992, where she has published dozens of profiles, essays, and humor pieces. Her subjects have included umbrella inventors, taxidermists, rappers, show dogs, the Tonya Harding Fan Club and Jean Paul Gaultier. She has also written for Vogue, Rolling Stone, Esquire, National Geographic and Outside Magazine. One of her stories for Outside, a profile of surf girls in Hawaii, was made into the film Blue Crush. She lives in Los Angeles with her family.
