Shuja Jamal

About

Shuja is a former Afghan civil servant who relocated to Australia after the violent takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban. He has worked as a Special Advisor to the CEO of the Refugee Council of Australia before his current role as Head of Policy, Advocacy and Communications at the Jesuit Refugee Service. He is co-author of The Decline and Fall of Republican Afghanistan (2023, Oxford University Press). Shuja is a Fulbright scholar and has a Master’s in Public Policy from Georgetown University, where he was Editor-in-Chief of Georgetown Public Policy Review. Shuja is on the national committee of the Australian Fulbright Alumni Association and on the Advisory Committee of the Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law. He is completing a Juris Doctor degree at Melbourne Law School.
