Michael Arnold

Michael Arnold is Associate Professor and Head of Discipline in the History and Philosophy of Science Programme at the University of Melbourne.

His ongoing research activities lie at the intersection of contemporary technologies and daily life: for example, studies of digital technologies in the domestic context; online memorials, body disposal and other technologies associated with death; social networking technologies and community informatics.

Michael is also interested in ethical and normative assessments of technologies and philosophical approaches to technologies – in particular, Heidegger, actor network theory and object-oriented ontology. Michael has been chief instigator on many research projects, and has published three research books and over 100 peer reviewed papers.
