Karen Percy is a Melbourne-based freelance journalist, board director and trauma trainer.

She is the elected Federal President of the Media section of the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance, which represents 5000+ media workers in Australia. She sits on the MEAA board and serves as Deputy Chair of the Walkley Foundation. She’s also on the Advisory Board of the Australian Intercultural Society.

Karen spent decades working for the ABC including as a foreign correspondent based in Bangkok, Thailand. She spent three years based in Moscow, Russia as a freelance correspondent.

Karen is passionate about quality, ethical, public interest journalism and trauma-informed practices.

In 2006 she was a fellow at the Reuters Institute for Journalism at Oxford University. In 2018 and 2019 she was an Ochberg Fellow and Senior Fellow at the Dart Centre for Trauma, based at Columbia University in New York.

In her spare time she does taekwondo!
