Jarni Blakkarly is a freelance journalist and radio producer currently based in Melbourne, Australia. He’s worked in Australia, Malaysia and Indonesia across a range of local and international publications and networks, with a focus on reporting local and international politics, human rights, social justice, migration and refugee issues, religion, culture and the environment.
Jarni started journalism interning at Malaysian online news organisation Malaysiakini in 2013 before returning to study a Bachelor of Communications (Journalism) at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. He’s filed for news organisations and publications such as Reuters, Al Jazeera, ABC 774 Melbourne, ABC 7.30, Crikey, Diplomat and VICE – as well as others including Griffith Review, ABC Religion and Ethics, Kill Your Darlings, Overland and Archer.
Jarni was previously the politics and arts editor of Asian Australian magazine Peril, and has also interned for Reuters and Agence France Presse.
