Described by Don Letts (BBC Radio) as 'the very definition of culture clash,' Immy’s ‘Afrodelik’ sound blends psychedelia, Zamrock and Highlife.
Growing up in Torquay, he drummed in the local rock scene while performing traditional West African music with his family. He later travelled to Ghana to study with his grandfather, ‘Palm Wine Highlife’ legend Koo Nimo, exploring the connections between Pan-African rhythm, blues and rock ‘n’ roll.
During lockdown, Immy lived in a rundown caravan behind Bells Beach, immersing himself in psychedelic global sounds. This inspired his debut album LO-LIFE!, featuring members of Surprise Chef, Karate Boogaloo and The Senegambian Jazz Band. The album earned Australian Music Prize and AIR nominations and culminated in Immy winning ‘Best Musician’ at the 2023 Music Victoria Awards.
In 2025, Immy collaborated with acclaimed Australian hip-hop producer Sensible J on Spiritual War, inspired by 70s Zamrock music. In 2026, he releases ‘Hard People,’ a folk homage to his family’s Highlife legacy.
