Gloria Demillo

About

Gloria Demillo (they/them) is a poet, writer and performer. Their creative work explores the concept of memory, collective histories, and the complicated nature of trauma. While they have often described their work as “sad girlboy” poetry, they are working towards writing about joy, hope, and the transformative power of love. They’ve published with the Australian Poetry Journal, Peril Magazine, Cordite Poetry Review, and Red Room Poetry. They’ve performed at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Queerstories, Melbourne Fringe, the Biennale of Sydney, National Young Writers Festival, Emerging Writers Festival, Australian Poetry Slam, and the Bankstown Poetry Slam Olympics. They have facilitated workshops and mentored emerging writers for Arts Centre Melbourne, Writers SA, and WordTravels. Gloria was the lead actor in Let Me Know When You Get Home, the actor and writer for A Minute’s Silence which debuted at Solstice Emerging Writers Festival and was chosen for Melbourne Theatre Company’s First Stage 2022. They are a member of the theatre group Ka-llective and practice a collaborative creative process founded in kapwa (co-spirit).
