About

Emmanuel Jal was born into the life of a child soldier in the war-torn region of Southern Sudan and later emerged as a recording artist, achieving worldwide acclaim for his unique style of hip hop with its message of peace and reconciliation.

Emmanuel has released four studio albums: Gua, Ceasefire, Warchild and See Me Mama. He’s performed alongside some of the biggest names in the music industry and has addressed the UN, US Congress and the highest tiers of several governments. In 2008 a full-length, award-winning documentary on his life, Warchild, was released, based on his autobiography of the same name. He starred in the full length feature film Africa United, and founded a charity, Gua Africa, which builds schools and funds scholarships for Sudanese war survivors.
