Aruna Sathanapally

Dr Aruna Sathanapally joined Grattan Institute as CEO in February 2024. She leads the Institute’s work on economic growth, budgets and institutional reform, and is a prominent expert on public policy in Australia.

A former barrister and senior public servant, Aruna has worked on the design of public institutions, economic policy, and evidence-based public policy and regulation for more than twenty years.

Before joining Grattan Institute, Dr Sathanapally was a senior executive at NSW Treasury for over five years, leading divisions responsible for revenue and federal financial relations, macroeconomics and state-owned corporations. Prior to this, she practised as a senior lawyer in litigation at the Australian Government Solicitor, and as a barrister at the New South Wales Bar. She worked as an Associate at McKinsey & Company in London from 2010 to 2012, having completed two masters in law and a doctorate at the University of Oxford.
