At Wheeler Kids x Abbotsford Convent, kids got crafty, met fascinating reptiles and danced their way through a fun-filled day made just for them.
On Saturday 5 April, The Wheeler Centre and Abbotsford Convent joined forces to present a vibrant day of discovery and creativity designed to ignite young minds and foster a lifelong love of reading, writing and making.
In partnership with Blak & Bright, we proudly welcomed Kamilaroi man, author and passionate STEM and wildlife advocate Corey Tutt to celebrate the launch of his latest book, Caution! This Book Contains Deadly Reptiles. Speaking to an enthusiastic audience, Corey brought Australia's most misunderstood creatures to life – quite literally! He was joined by real snakes, tortoises, lizards and even a baby crocodile. Drawing on First Nations knowledges and languages, Corey reminded us of the transformative power of science, culture and care for Country.
The afternoon was equally electric, with beloved children’s author and entertainer Felice Arena inspiring kids of all ages to move their bodies, use their voices and stretch their imaginations. With music, dancing, a lively read-along and on-the-spot live illustration, there was no sitting still during this unforgettable hour of fun that delighted both the young and the young-at-heart.
Meanwhile, throughout the day, the Crafty Kids’ Lab buzzed with creativity as families dropped in to create winged wonders with illustrator Anna Walker, draw bear buddies with textile artist Cat Rabbit, and even write and publish their very own miniature books with Kids’ Own Publishing.
