As the centre of Books, Writing and Ideas, we are host to some fantastic arts and culture organisations within our walls.
Within the Wheeler Centre building on Lonsdale Street lives Australian Poetry, Blak & Bright, Melbourne City of Literature Office, Emerging Writers' Festival, Express Media, Melbourne Writers Festival, PEN Melbourne, the Small Press Network and Writers Victoria.

Writers Victoria
On Saturday 24 February, join Nardi Simpson, author of Song of the Crocodile, and explore the role of setting in long and short fiction. This Writers Victoria online workshop considers the lore of place, duality in place and setting, techniques to embody place, the relationship of writing to ‘acting like the Creator’ and ways in which people reflect the spaces and landscapes of their lives. Register to attend the workshop 10am-4pm this Saturday.The Melbourne City of Literature Office
The Melbourne COLO is running a residency briefing in March to showcase some of the City of Literature network's residency programs. Join them 7pm, Wednesday 1 March on zoom to hear about programs in Barcelona, Gothenburg, Granada, Heidelberg, Krakow, Ljubljana, Nanjing and Norwich. The online event is free to attend but registrations are necessary as there are limited spots available.Melbourne Writers Festival
The Melbourne Writers Festival much-loved podcast brings fascinating conversations recorded live from the festival straight to listeners at home, featuring award-winning writers and thinkers discussing everything from the craft of storytelling to the climate crisis, Australian politics to mental health.PEN Melbourne
Davide Dormino's 'Anything to Say? A Monument to Courage' has made its journey to Australia for the very first time. After public art installations in Belgium, Italy, Serbia and more, the monument is being unveiled at 6pm Tuesday 7 March at Queensbridge Square in Melbourne. The monument features a life-size bronze sculpture, portraying three famous figures standing on a chair, Edward Snowden, Julian Assange and Chelsea Manning.
