Sendak's Abandoned Tolkien Project

BACK

Following on from news of Shaun Tan’s Astrid Lindgren Award win, we noticed that the inaugural winner of the prize was Maurice Sendak, legendary creator of Where the Wild Things Are (also of course a Dave Eggers-scripted, Spike Jonze-directed film, shot in Victoria). Sendak’s fans are legion, as are fans of JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit (which itself won awards, and is soon to be released as a Peter Jackson-directed film). Many of them, we think, will be drooling at the prospects of an edition of the fantasy epic illustrated by Sendak. Here’s a taste.
