It’s National Poetry Week, so what better time to cast our minds to poetry and what it means to us. In our recent Two Sides of the Story event, Beyond the Couplet, two of Australia’s best writers - Craig Sherborne and Cate Kennedy - were on stage together to discuss poetry and the poetic life. We’ve uploaded the video and the podcast to what was a fascinating discussion.
Together, Sherborne and Kennedy, who both have books shortlisted for the 2011 Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards, explore the points of commonality and difference in their respective writing practices. The two poets trace the progress of a poem from the idea to the page, explore poetry’s unique power, read from their published work, and digress poetically about much else besides.
