About

For some, public speaking means extra homework and sweaty palms. For these determined speechmakers, it represents the chance to claim the title of the Victorian State Champion.

Join a line-up of passionate students as they take to the stage to share their words and wisdom for the 2022 Plain English Speaking Award state final.

Organised annually by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, the Plain English Speaking Award is a public-speaking competition for high school students. The awards celebrate creative thinking, general knowledge, and clear, direct communication, providing teens with a platform to talk about the things that matter to them – from feminism, to religion, to power and privilege.

This event is suitable for teens aged 13–18 years old.

The event will be live-streamed on this page and will be viewable from 10am on Friday 22 July 2022.

Wheeler Education

In the extraordinary times we live in, Wheeler Education is here to bring the world to teens – and teens to the world. Our programme offers a range of events that prioritises the voices and experiences of young people – on the stage, and off. In our dynamic and interactive events, we’ll hear from young people about the challenges facing them right now, we’ll equip them with the skills they need to participate in important public conversations and, most of all, we’ll celebrate their passions, their ideas, and their stories.
