Discover exciting new writers at a special Emerging Writers’ Festival edition of The Next Big Thing.

Join us for a vibrant evening of readings and celebration as The Wheeler Centre and Emerging Writers’ Festival join forces to spotlight six of Australia's up-and-coming literary stars.

Chris Ames explores the tension between authenticity and performance in I Made This Just For You. Hannah McElhinney’s Wormhole is a deeply researched examination of alternative therapies, conspiracy theories and medical misogyny interwoven with a tragic personal story. In the surreal short story collection Mother Salad, Helena Pantsis explores the complexities of womanhood through the lives of mothers and the children they raise. And Lauren Williams’ Neighbourhood Watch is a sharp, stylish thriller infused with dark humour.

Hunter Rose-Dale performs an electrifying reading of their poetry, while Zarah Yukubu shares their piece from Voiceworks #137, ‘Gutter’.
