About the Event

Council worker Lorrie Hope has a great partner, two adorable kids and absolutely no idea what to do with her life. Her big work project launches on Friday, and she’s applied for a promotion she’s not sure she wants. But that’s not a patch on the real mess her best friend Alex is in – and worse – is about to drag her into. As the day veers dangerously off course, Lorrie and Alex must reconsider what they can expect from life, love and middle management. Introducing The Opposite of Success – a warm, light-hearted novel about female friendships, modern motherhood, and navigating the messiness of mid-life. At the final Melbourne City Reads event for 2023, recovering lawyer turned full-time writer Eleanor Elliott Thomas joins host Jacinta Parsons to discuss the story behind her debut novel, and a writing career that seems set to be anything but The Opposite of Success.
