About the event

For this instalment of The Next Big Thing, debut writers of fiction, poetry and memoir reflect on heart and home. Infused with classical influences, award-winning poet Amy Crutchfield’s debut collection, The Cyprian, explores the joy and heartbreak of love. Magdalena McGuire’s story collection Born for You shines a light on the highs and lows of the domestic sphere, and the ways motherhood forces people to reinvent themselves. Ilona Mutuku's Voiceworks piece, 'To Live in a Virtual World', is about finding community and home in video games. I’d Rather Not is a collection of wayward autobiographical tales that traverse the adventures and misadventures of writer Robert Skinner. Join these writers at The Moat as they reflect on finding our true selves – at home, in travel, or in the love of another. Unfortunately, Jessica Yu is no longer able to appear at this event. The bookseller for this event is Readings.
