Experience a collection of fresh works at The Moat, as the latest line-up of Next Big Thing writers present readings that delve into themes of identity, transformation, and the meaning of home.
For this instalment of The Next Big Thing, debut writers of fiction, poetry and memoir reflect on heart and home. Infused with classical influences, award-winning poet Amy Crutchfield’s debut collection, The Cyprian, explores the joy and heartbreak of love. Magdalena McGuire’s story collection Born for You shines a light on the highs and lows of the domestic sphere, and the ways motherhood forces people to reinvent themselves. Ilona Mutuku's Voiceworks piece, 'To Live in a Virtual World', is about finding community and home in video games. I’d Rather Not is a collection of wayward autobiographical tales that traverse the adventures and misadventures of writer Robert Skinner. Join these writers at The Moat as they reflect on finding our true selves – at home, in travel, or in the love of another. Unfortunately, Jessica Yu is no longer able to appear at this event.
