Anna Jones is a British cook and food writer perfectly suited to our times – and from the titles of her immensely popular vegetarian cookbooks, that might seem no accident. A Modern Way to Eat, A Modern Way to Cook, and The Modern Cook’s Year are beloved by home cooks and highly acclaimed by fellow food writers.

Her books – and her weekly Guardian food columns – speak to our contemporary appetite for sustainable, approachable home cooking. Jones’s recipes encourage time-poor people to cook delicious, affordable, healthy and interesting food with minimal work; one-pan cooking is often the focus. The ‘queen of greens’, Jones wants her readers to find simple, sensory joy in food, and to put vegetables at the centre of their meals.

An alumnus of Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen apprentice programme, Jones then joined Oliver’s team, working on his various books, TV shows and food campaigns. She’s been dubbed ‘the new Nigella’ by the Sunday Times, but her outlook is broader. Her forthcoming book, One: The Only Way to Cook for You, Your Family and the Planet, offers advice on reducing waste, leftovers and packaging in the kitchen.

In April, join Anna Jones at the Capitol Theatre for a conversation about eating now – with an eye on the clock, and on the future.
