Each month, we’ll focus on a different Australian state or territory, starting with our home base of Victoria in March, then New South Wales in April, and another region in May.
This is a golden opportunity to discover the work of writers hand-picked by us from around Australia, in the cosy surrounds of The Moat, where you can enjoy a drink and a bite as you’re entertained and enlightened.

Abigail Ulman
Abigail Ulman is a writer from Melbourne. She is the recipient of a Wallace Stegner Fellowship in Fiction from Stanford University, and a winner of the Best Young Australian Novelist Award. Her debut short story collection Hot Little Hands has been published in Australia and abroad.

Anne Buist
Anne Buist is the Chair of Women’s Mental Health at the University of Melbourne and has over 25 years clinical and research experience in perinatal psychiatry. She works with Protective Services and the legal system in cases of abuse, kidnapping, infanticide and murder. Medea’s Curse is her first mainstream psychological thriller.
Ilka Tampke
Ilka Tampke teaches fiction at RMIT University. Her first novel, Skin, was published in eight countries and was nominated for the Voss Literary Prize and the Aurealis Awards in 2016. Her second novel, Songwoman, was published in October 2018. Ilka lives on five acres in the Macedon Ranges of Victoria.
Jeremy Clark
Jeremy Clark lives in Brunswick and studies Medicine at Melbourne University.
Born in 1991, he has a masochistic relationship with the Melbourne Football club. He enjoys trying to stay alive on Youth Allowance, and occasionally, writing in his spare time.
