The first event ever to run at the Wheeler Centre was a Debut Mondays session, and two years on, we’re just as committed to fostering new talent.
Whether it’s meeting Australian literature’s newest wunderkind or hearing a known quantity strike a bold new path, Debut Mondays is your chance to discover some great new writing. This year Debut Mondays has moved to the Wheeler Centre’s new cafe/ bar /restaurant, The MOAT. So pop in, grab a drink and enjoy the stories.

Zane Lovitt
Zane Lovitt was a documentary filmmaker before turning his hand to crime fiction. His stories have appeared in Scribe’s New Australian Stories 2 and in the Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine.
His story ‘Leaving the Fountainhead’ won the SD Harvey Short Story Award at the 2010 Ned Kelly Awards for Australian crime fiction. Zane lives in Melbourne.

Jessie Cole
Jessie Cole’s work has appeared in Kill Your Darlings, Meanjin, Island Magazine and the Big Issue. This year sees the publication of her debut novel Darkness on the Edge of Town.
She grew up in an isolated valley in Northern NSW, and lived a bush childhood of creek swimming and barefoot free-range adventuring. In 2009 she was awarded a HarperCollins Varuna Award for Manuscript Development, leading to the publication of Darkness on the Edge of Town. Nowadays, she lives in her childhood home with her two sons.
Robyn Dennison
Robyn Dennison is a Melbourne writer and student. She has contributed to Voiceworks and is an editor for Mary journal.
Originally from Newcastle, Robyn relocated to Melbourne in 2007 to study creative writing and cinema. She graduated in 2009 with a degree in creative arts from Melbourne University, where she is currently completing a graduate diploma in gender studies.
She remains hopeful of one day completing the young adult fiction novel she’s been writing for three years.
