Anna Rose is co-founder and Chair of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition. Her new book Madlands: A Journey to Change the Mind of a Climate Sceptic tells the tale of her extraordinary journey with Liberal Party powerbroker Nick Minchin, which was also documented by ABC TV in the special I Can Change Your Mind About Climate. In our first Lunchbox/Soapbox for Programme Two, Anna discusses the rise of climate denialism both in Australia and globally, why the Australian media doesn’t discuss climate change rationally, what motivates the denialist elite – and how to change people’s minds!

Anna Rose is former Young Environmentalist of the Year, and author of the book Madlands: A Journey to Change the Mind of a Climate Sceptic (Melbourne University Press). Anna is co-founder and chair of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition, a movement of over 80,000 young people working to solve climate change before it’s too late.
Anna’s climate change work started with shovelling compost and emptying recycling bins in high school. She went on to work with the National Union of Students (winning dozens of campus clean energy victories), speak onstage with the Dalai Lama in Perth, trudge through the snow door-knocking in the United States, and spearhead Australia’s first climate torch relay in her former role as GetUp’s climate campaigner.
In 2011 Anna received a Churchill Fellowship to research youth peer-to-peer climate education. The Sydney Morning Herald named her one of Sydney’s most influential people (2009) and one of the top five most powerful grassroots organisers in NSW (2011).
