Teaching English another way

Teens explore different ways to teach the English curriculum at the 2022 VATE conference.
Zuva Goverwa and Zifa Tanner-Kamal, two teens involved in the Wheeler Centre’s youth programme, recently took part in a panel event at the Victorian Association for the Teaching of English (VATE) conference. Speaking to an audience of over 100 secondary school English teachers, Zuva and Zifa shared their ideas on how to make the English curriculum more meaningful for students. Together they explored ideas like collaborative learning versus structured learning, what type of writers they'd like to see more of and whether the curriculum should include less texts by Shakespeare. Check out the graphic recording captured of their conversation above captured by Glenn Stephenson of Capture This. For more teens-led conversations, explore the Wheeler Centre's Teens Talk series.
