“Everyone is green now - every coal company, every oil company, every pesticide company, every GMO company - they’re all green,” Vandana Shiva joked as she began. She’s seen firsthand the development of terminator technology, seeds that are genetically modified to be sterile so Indian farmers are forced to buy more each season.

It may sound like science fiction, but Shiva has heard how GMO companies have redefined nature so bees are “usurpers of pollen” and “weeds steal sunshine” as everything is given an economic value. But Shiva also offers hope, by radicalising farmers and getting them to take control of their industry again. She challenges the “big corporations” by making farming a “climate solution” as she moves away from the “monoculture of the mind”.
