Do you live with a budding Kendrick Lamar or the next Missy Elliott or Nicki Minaj? This Wheeler Kids workshop, led by Candy Bowers, is designed to get aspiring rappers, beatboxers, spoken-word artists and slam poets inspired.
A hip-hop artist, playwright, poet, Circus Oz ringmistress, actor and lyricist, Candy counts Alice Walker and Shonda Rhimes among her personal heroes. But Bowers is herself an inspiration to younger generations, formerly of cult comedy hip-hop act Sista She and now as artistic director of Black Honey Company. When she’s not touring the country with various Black Honey genre-defying performances, she’s schooling kids in rhyme, wordplay and improvisation at her hip hop workshops.
At this event for ages 7–12, Candy will share her rapping tips and tricks and get kids collaborating on a track. Book your up-and-coming MC in for a fun and noisy afternoon at the Wheeler Centre.
