Lunchbox/Soapbox returns for its third season in 2011 with former Victorian Police Commissioner Christine Nixon reflecting on the nature of leadership. In her recently released memoir, Fair Cop, Christine Nixon reflects on her journey of a woman into a man’s world. In it she shares the public and private stories of Christine Nixon – woman, spouse, citizen, constable – on a journey marked by tragedy, corruption, ambition and humility.
Lunchbox/Soapbox is a simple idea: an old-fashioned Speakers’ Corner in the middle of the city, in the middle of the day.
At the Wheeler Centre we’re keen to showcase our writers as thinkers and as artists, as people with passions and peccadilloes. So we’ve come up with Lunchbox/Soapbox: a weekly space for them to sound off on a topic of their choice. Think of it as a 20-minute piece of polemic to give lunching CBD folk something to chew on.

Christine Nixon
Christine Nixon is a Deputy Chancellor of Monash University, Chair of Monash College Pty Ltd and Chair of Good Shepherd Microfinance. She was the Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police from 2001 to 2009 and led the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority from 2009 to 2010. She co-wrote Fair Cop with Jo Chandler and Women Leading with Amanda Sinclair. Nixon teaches, consults and mentors on change and leadership.
