To question maximising economic growth as an organising principle of society seems close to economic heresy. But is there any evidence that we can de-link consumption and economic growth from emissions growth? Must we re-think the very notion of growth and what it means to be genuinely prosperous?
As in his effusively reviewed book Prosperity Without Growth, Professor Tim Jackson helps us both understand and chart a course to a new, truly rich and lasting human prosperity.
Tim Jackson is Professor of Sustainable Development at the University of Surrey and Director of the Research Group on Lifestyles, Values and Environment (RESOLVE).
Since 2004 Tim has been Economics Commissioner on the UK Sustainable Development Commission and is the author of their controversial and groundbreaking report, now updated and expanded in the book Prosperity Without Growth: Economics for a Finite Planet. In addition to his academic work he is an award-winning playwright with numerous radio-writing credits for the BBC.
