Hot Desk Extract: Strange Bedfellows
As part of the Wheeler Centre’s Hot Desk Fellowship programme, Ariel Ries worked on a graphic novel, Strange Bedfellows, a coming of age sci-fi romance.

The story follows Oberon, a boy who develops the ability to manifest his dreams while finding his way back from a semi-public ‘breakdown’. Kon—Oberon’s high school crush who fell off the radar after moving schools—is one such dream Oberon just can’t seem to dispel.
The below excerpt shows sample pages from the opening of the comic used in the pitch sent out to publishing houses, and does not reflect the final work. Strange Bedfellows has since been picked up for publication by Harper Collins, due for a 2024 release.
