Missives from the Future

What will the world look like in 2027 or 2057? From climate change to emerging technologies, sometimes uncertainty feels like the only thing that’s certain.

In partnership with the 2017 Digital Writers' Festival, we invited three very different writers to work across their different forms and explore possible futures – informed by fact and fiction.

As well as their TinyLetter stories, the project's three writers each reflect on their process in these short videos.

In keeping with the spirit of TinyLetters, these pieces are presented as written and sent by their authors – unedited.

A friend tells me something vital - that when the rain is heavy enough, the plain we stand across forms to become it's own lake. It’s always bucketing down out here in the places where this isn’t enough protection. What happens is that the water pools far enough so that…

I can’t believe I’m spending my last ever shift at Coles playing truth or dare in a cool room with Kaye. We are sitting in my favourite cool room, which is the one full of the boxed frozen meals. I love it because the boxes are all stacked up neatly…

In adelaide, it's 2025, and the efforts to distill compliancy into commonplace mindsets have been pulled off. Ten years previously it held the title of the unemployment state - don't even worry about the festival state. slap that truism on the bottom of your number plates, and see how many…

Dear Q,

I am a big fan of your work

I tune into your drone live-stream almost every day unless tuition goes over time or if mom or dad takes up the Wi-Fi.

I’m excited that your live streams are becoming more consistent as you become more popular…
