There comes a point, when a book or film becomes a text, that study can take the joy out of reading. Every Tuesday afternoon in terms one and two, we try to rediscover a sense of love and wonder about the texts on the VCE English list.
This week, it’s On the Waterfront by Elia Kazan.
Margaret Pomeranz AM co-hosted The Movie Show on SBS and At The Movies on ABC with David Stratton for nearly three decades. She has served as a member of the Advertising Standards Board, is a past President of the Film Critics Circle of Australia and has been both President and Vice-President of Watch on Censorship. Margaret is currently presenting movies and a review program Screen on Foxtel.
David Stratton is a former director of the Sydney Film Festival, former film critic for the international film industry magazine Variety, and is currently film critic for The Australian. He also co-hosts the ABC’s At the Movies with Margaret Pomeranz.
Studying a book or film can be a short-cut to consigning it to boredom. But our Texts in the City series – a gift to students, their teachers and lifelong learners – brings the VCE English and Literature lists to life.
Each week, our hosts – authors Lili Wilkinson and Tony Birch – will interview experts intimately familiar with the texts, unearthing those hidden gems that could help your essay shine.
Good luck to all VCE English and Literature students in 2013.
