Stop, You’re Going the Wrong Way
Gretel has been scared, brazen, humiliated and praised. She’s loved and lost, been confused, brave and cowardly, laughed, cried, mourned and dreaded and she’d do it all again and more – ‘because experiencing every possible emotion is exactly what life’s all about’. Gretel believes that the tendency for our society to encourage conformity, discourage uniqueness and shelter us from fear and pain is a delusion that should be challenged because in trying to protect ourselves from life we ironically don’t live at all.
Gretel Killeen is a writer, performer, voice artist and journalist. She is currently completing her directorial feature film debut.
We love exploring ideas at the Wheeler Centre, and encouraging others to do the same. That’s why every Thursday lunchtime we hand the microphone over to the great thinkers, dreamers and orators of our time.
With a dazzling range of passionate speakers and unusual topics, our soapbox provides a platform for the eclectic, topical and enlightening stories you won’t hear elsewhere. This is the most memorable lunch break you’ll have all week.
If you’re in need of sustenance of body as well as mind, the MOAT lunch cart will be serving delicious $10 lunchboxes in the Performance Space from 12.20pm.
