Dr Jonathon Welch on Life Beyond Hard Knocks: Confessions of a Choraloholic

As a musical group for homeless and disadvantaged people, The Choir of Hard Knocks (of ABC TV fame) found national success, winning awards and reaching the height of performance at the Sydney Opera House. Hard Knocks musical director, Jonathon Welch, talks about his time with the choir and how this experience had a profound impact on his life.

Now the director of the Melbourne Festival of Choirs, which brings musicians, singers and musical directors together with individuals and choirs of all abilities, Jonathon speaks passionately about the power of music, song and most of all, community participation and involvement.

We love exploring ideas at the Wheeler Centre, and encouraging others to do the same. That’s why every Thursday lunchtime we hand the microphone over to the great thinkers, dreamers and orators of our time.

With a dazzling range of passionate speakers and unusual topics, our soapbox provides a platform for the eclectic, topical and enlightening stories you won’t hear elsewhere. This is the most memorable lunch break you’ll have all week.

If you’re in need of sustenance of body as well as mind, the MOAT lunch cart will be serving delicious $10 lunchboxes in the Performance Space from 12.20pm.
