People always ask Casey Bennetto, ‘What are you working on next?’ His answer: ‘I’m not telling’.
Do all writers feel this way, or is Casey the only one?
At this Lunchbox/Soapbox, Casey Bennetto, the creator of Keating! The Musical, explores the nature of inspiration and those important first steps that translate into something concrete. How do we deal with the brutal, wholesale slaughter of possibilities involved in reducing any exciting idea to one specific, delineated pathway? Does this process differ between forms and topics?
Casey Bennetto is an award-winning writer, musician and radio broadcaster. He wrote the musical KEATING!, hosts the program Superfluity on Melbourne’s 3RRR, and has appeared in places as diverse as ABCTV’s Spicks and Specks, the Melbourne International Arts Festival and the Festival of Dangerous Ideas at Sydney Opera House.
We love exploring ideas at the Wheeler Centre, and encouraging others to do the same. That’s why every Thursday lunchtime we hand the microphone over to the great thinkers, dreamers and orators of our time.
With a dazzling range of passionate speakers and unusual topics, our soapbox provides a platform for the eclectic, topical and enlightening stories you won’t hear elsewhere. This is the most memorable lunch break you’ll have all week.
If you’re in need of sustenance of body as well as mind, the MOAT lunch cart will be serving delicious $10 lunchboxes in the Performance Space from 12.20pm.
