She set agendas, dictated style, and changed the way magazine publishing was done in Australia. One of the most respected speakers in Australia and the author/co-author of ten books, Ita Buttrose speaks with feature writer Di Dempsey about the passions that shaped her life. From business to the arts, this is a woman whose determination and ability has kept her at the forefront of public life for many decades.
This session will be held at the Capital Theatre.
Ita Buttrose became the first woman to ever edit a major metropolitan newspaper in Australia when she was appointed editor-in-chief of News Limited‘s Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph. She later became Editor-in-Chief of Fairfax Media’s Sun-Herald, having worked as a senior feature writer on Fairfax’s now defunct Sun newspaper and as publishing consultant to Fairfax magazines.
She launched ITA magazine for The Woman Who Wasn’t Born Yesterday, and hosted prime-time radio shows for Sydney’s 2UE, 2KY and 2UE. She is the author of 11 books.
We can’t wait to get back on the road again – bringing some of our favourite writers to regional Victoria. We’ll be packing up the car with books and authors, travelling from country to coast … and making sure Melbourne doesn’t get all the literary fun. Look out for our bootful of books – coming to a town near you.
