Travel Writing: Why It Sucks

Listen to Travel Writing: Why It Sucks

London-based Andrew Mueller couldn’t decide between being a rock journalist, travel writer or foreign correspondent so he thought he’d try all three at once.

In this Lunchbox/Soapbox, Mueller takes travel writing to task. Weighing up the good and bad points of editorial oversight (and its responsibility to be inoffensive to advertisers), Mueller laments the incompetence of both writer and traveller in seeking and reflecting on the road less travelled.

Later, he shares what he considers an intelligent, well-penned account of travel - in this case, a 5500 word exposition of Hamburg through the eye of a young band called The Beatles.
