Melbourne Writers Festival: In the Soviet Archives

Listen to Melbourne Writers Festival: In the Soviet Archives

Sheila Fitzpatrick is a historian of modern Russia: in the 1960s, she went to Cold War Moscow to research the Bolshevik revolution. She revisits the era in her new memoir A Spy in the Archives and explores the line between research and spying, trust and betrayal in this conversation with Dr Paula Michaels.

Fitzpatrick also weighs in on the Edward Snowden saga (and how it might affect US-Russian relations), and shares her view on Russia’s recent headline-making anti-gay laws.

A Melbourne Writers Festival event, proudly supported by the Wheeler Centre.
